CARPARK.
Standing on a section of a carpark of an existing hotel, these three-story, lopsided truncated pyramid-shaped cabins has one unique feature: they allow guests to park their cars directly underneath their units and immediately enjoy their weekend getaway right upstairs.
CATEGORY : Hotel
LOCATION : Bandung, Indonesia
YEAR : 2024
Each cabin has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The small bedroom on the ground floor is used primarily for an extended family member or the guests’ drivers while the main bedroom are located on the second floor.
The main room is accessible via a metal staircase which leads to a balcony where guests can enjoy a breath of fresh air as well as the cool climate and serenity of the hilly area. The balcony is connected to the master bedroom which doubles as a living area with little separation between the two.
The master bathroom is located on the mezzanine floor. It features an open floor plan with a custom built circular-shaped bath.
Each cabin is shaped like a truncated pyramid to maximize the small space available while giving the five cabins their own unique features that are distinct from the rest of the hotel. Guests can also experience a one-of-a-kind spatial experience they can hardly find anywhere else. To ensure privacy, the pyramids are lopsided, partially obscuring view into the unit from the busy areas of the hotel which has a lot of foot traffic.
To ensure the cabins are well lit using natural light the pyramid shape is trimmed on two of its corner, leaving behind two triangular plains, one opaque and one transparent. Glass is used for the transparent triangle while the inside of the opaque plain is fitted with a giant mirror to maximize sunlight while still maintaining privacy.
The cabins are made primarily out of steel frames clad in wooden shingles for their roofs and exterior walls, giving them their distinctive color and textures which contrast the rest of the existing property and blend in with the many trees shading the compound.
The unique shape, the play on natural lights and the unique feature which lets people park their vehicles right underneath their cabins, provide guests with a unique spatial experience in a serene and tranquil setting.
